A new private specialist nurse led allergy clinic offering diagnostic testing is now available at Ocean health. The aim of the clinic is to provide focused and accurate scientifically based allergy testing. Patients will have a one stop appointment where full allergy history will be taken and diagnostic tests offered. The patient will receive a self management plan and where required, with consent, recommendations to the general practitioner on prescribing or onward referral. Many people have undiagnosed allergies and many falsely believe that they have an allergy when in reality they do not. Who is it for?
Who provides the service?Sister Diane Potter currently works as an allergy nurse specialist at Bournemouth Hospital Foundation Trust. She qualified as an RGN in 2000 and as an allergy nurse in 2001 after studying for a certificate in the mechanisms and management of allergic disease at Southampton University Hospital. Diane also runs youth workshops for the anaphylaxis campaign, helping young people to understand and cope with their allergies. Her youngest son has many allergies including egg, nuts, raw fruit and airborne allergens. What is the procedure?Please telephone and we will take your details and a description of the problem. Alternatively send us an e-mail giving us your name, address, date of birth, contact telephone number and a description of the problem. Diane will review this information and if she feels she will be able to help, will ask us to arrange an appointment. If she feels this service is not appropriate for you we will let you know and there will be no fee. The appointment will last 45 minutes. Diane will take a detailed history of the problem and perform appropriate tests. Usually this will involve skin prick testing but occasionally blood tests. What will it cost?The cost of an appointment is £75 which will include one basic panel of skin prick allergy tests. Additional panels or blood tests may be offered at additional cost which will be clearly explained to you at that time Links |
